In the photo you can see the lower stones are more firmly bonded that the ones I added on top.

In the photo of the village opposite our house you can see the horizontal lines of the terraced hillside - between the two roads. The earliest terraces are very ancient indeed, built by slaves and peasants centuries ago. The people who lived here in earlier times had to make the best use of the mountainous land available to grow their crops. The main room of the villa looks out on to this terrace with pool and plants. The leaves on the right in the foreground are of a carob tree, algarrobo in Spanish. This particular carob is only about 14 years old. It shades the cook at the built-in barbecue in the left foreground. And the feature has other uses too - storage!
