The lower terrace has a patio outside the door leading into the apartment under the main house. In the foreground of the photo showing this door are the two stems of a yucca planted 12 years ago at about one metre high, and now grown to three metres. To the left of the yucca you can see a Phoenix Canariensis (Canary Island Palm) - again only about a metre high when planted. The photos are from opposite sides of the same patio. In the other photo there is a wild vine in the foreground. It was grafted by our neighbour, Vicente, to grow a small seedless grape, producing its bunches in late August. The climbing plant on the wall to the left, whose scent and flowers we look forward to every spring, is jasmine. In early August, looking dusty, but a joy to see and smell in May.
One of the photos below is of 'the garden in the sky', so called by grandson, Otto, when he first saw it. The ivy, bignonia, vine, and honeysuckle grow over a frame which was built around the patio on the lower terrace. They provide a secluded, shady haven to read and relax.
In the other photo, the overhang on the south side of the pool provides a shady garage for the wheelbarrow.
